Keycaps can be made out of different types of plastics, which affect the price, sound, and texture of the keycaps. The two most common types of plastic are ABS and PBT. ABS keycaps are cheaper, and more commonly found. They feel smooth and end up developing a glossy shine over time. They are usually thinner, and usually sound slightly more quiet when typing. PBT keycaps are thicker, and feel more textured and durable. They have a louder sound than ABS that can come off as crisp and clean. While PBT keycaps might seem better than ABS for the most part, higher end PBT caps can still be a solid choice.
